Understanding the increasing need to care for the environment, Wilbytree aim for a 100% recycling rate. This is also in relation with the IS0 14001 award, the international standard for Environmental Management which sets out the businesses requirements for recycling, aiming for sustainability and for protecting the environment. This certification is a prestigious award with only 1% of UK businesses achieving it.
Tree surgery and general landscape maintenance generates a large amount of green waste, all of our waste produced gets recycled through a variety of means:
As a result of our full recycling programme we have a number of by-products which we sell and deliver locally. Our products include firewood – cut and split, and woodchip mulch. For details about our products please click here.

wood chip to be sent to a biomass power station.
In an aim to reduce our impact on the environment we use biodegradable chain oil, we also recycle all other non-green wastes, including our objective to reduce the quantities of materials we use. Re-using previously used materials where possible and through sorting of all our office waste for recyclable products including printer cartridges, plastics, paper, cardboards, mobile phones and fluorescent lighting tubes etc. for regular collections. All of our waste oils and other fluids are collected and processed by a licensed waste handler.
Following our understanding to care for the environment we also take responsibility to protect the species which inhabit it. This means that prior to works being carried out a habitat assessment is carried out on every tree. This is working in accordance to the guidelines set by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. An assessment is carried out to determine if any disturbance will occur prior to tree works being carried out. All birds, their nest and eggs are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act as well as many other animals i.e. bats, badgers.

Wilbytree work closely with ecologists, conservationists and members of wildlife organisations. If any protected species or their roosts are discovered whilst undertaking tree work, operatives must stop work and inform their supervisor who will contact the relevant contacts for further advice and support.
Wilbytree are also members of the Bat Conservation Trust.
